Help the search for our ancestors from Olkeniki!

There are two Yizkor Books translation projects, under the auspices of JewishGen. Donations to these projects may be made by using the links provided for the translation projects on the Yizkor Book page.

There are two projects involving translation of records from Olkeniki: district records, and vital records. These projects are sponsored by LitvakSIG.

The LitvakSIG has vital records from the Vilnus Archives for many years, primarily the 1850-1900 time frame.  In addition, the SIG has recently acquired the 1811 Revision List (census) for Olkeniki, as well as other types of records such as voters lists and family lists. Translation of a huge (5,660 records) family list from 1904, which includes some records from previous years, is in process; this may be the most significant district record list for many of us, whose ancestors left primarily in the 1890-1900 period.

Funds are needed to translate these records!  Donations, which may be tax-deductible, can be made on the LitvakSIG website, http://www.litvaksig.org; click on the "Become a Contributor" link on the middle of the home page.

There are multiple sets of records that are being worked on simultaneously: one is for Revision Lists (census) (the first Contribution Option on the Donation form); another is for Vital Records (the second Contribution Option on the donation form).

To donate to the translation of the Revision Lists and other District Lists, please select the first option; select "Trakai" for the District, and Valkininkai as the Shtetl.  See the Trakai District website for more information.

To donate to the translation of vital records (Birth, Marriage, Death, Divorce), please select the second option; choose Valkininkai from the drop-down list.
